RecoveryRobot® Undelete
Undelete Software – Recover Deleted Files for Windows
Accidentally deleted important files, used Shift+Delete, or emptied the Recycle Bin?
RecoveryRobot Undelete scans hard drives, USB drives, SD cards, and other supported storage devices for recoverable documents, photos, videos, and more. Preview supported files before choosing what to recover.
Windows 11 & 10 · Scan before recovery
Important: Stop using the drive or storage device where your files were deleted. Installing software or saving new files to that device may overwrite data that could still be recovered.

Can Deleted Files Be Recovered?
In many cases, yes. When a file is deleted, Windows may remove its reference from the file system without immediately erasing the underlying data.
That means the file may still be recoverable until its storage space is reused.
Recovery Is More Likely When
- You deleted files recently.
- You used Shift+Delete.
- You emptied the Recycle Bin
- You deleted the entire partition.
- The affected drive has not been heavily used since deletion.
- No new files have overwritten the deleted data.
Recovery May Be More Difficult When
- New files have been saved to the same drive.
- Windows or other software has been installed on the affected drive.
- The deleted data has already been overwritten.
- The storage device has hardware problems.
- The files were deleted from an SSD, and TRIM has already cleared the underlying data.
What About Files Deleted from the Recycle Bin?
Files removed from the Recycle Bin are no longer available through normal Windows restore options, but their data may still remain on the drive until overwritten.
Stop using the affected drive and scan it as soon as possible.
What About Shift+Delete?
Shift+Delete bypasses the Recycle Bin, but it does not necessarily mean the file contents are immediately erased.
Recovery may still be possible if the original data remains intact.
If the affected drive is detected by Windows and shows no signs of physical failure, scan it to check which deleted files may still be recoverable.
Free Download for WindowsHow to Recover Deleted Files in 3 Steps
If the affected storage device is detected by Windows and shows no signs of physical failure, you can scan it with RecoveryRobot in three steps.
1. Select the Drive
Download and open RecoveryRobot on your Windows PC.
Choose the hard drive, SSD, USB drive, SD card, or other storage device where your files were deleted.
If possible, install RecoveryRobot on a different physical drive from the one you want to recover.
2. Scan for Deleted Files
Start the scan and let RecoveryRobot search the selected device for recoverable files.
Once the scan is complete, browse the results by file type, folder, or other available filters to locate the files you need.
3. Preview and Recover
Preview supported files, select what you want to recover, and save them to a different physical drive or storage device.
Do not save recovered files back to the original drive, as this may overwrite other deleted data that could still be recoverable.
Free Download for WindowsHow Were Your Files Deleted?
Deleted files can disappear in different ways. The recovery process depends on what happened and whether the original data has been overwritten.
I Deleted Files Normally
If you deleted files through Windows, check the Recycle Bin first.
If the files are no longer there, RecoveryRobot can scan the original drive for recoverable data.
I Used Shift+Delete
Shift+Delete bypasses the Recycle Bin, but the file contents may still remain on the drive until overwritten.
Stop using the affected drive and scan it as soon as possible.
I Emptied the Recycle Bin
Files removed from the Recycle Bin cannot be restored through normal Windows options.
They may still be recoverable if their storage space has not been reused.
Files Disappeared After Moving or Copying Them
Files may go missing after an interrupted transfer, accidental move, or storage error.
Before scanning, check the original and destination folders, the Recycle Bin, and any available backups.
Files Were Deleted from an External Drive
Files deleted from USB drives, external hard drives, or memory cards often bypass the Windows Recycle Bin.
Stop using the device and scan it before saving anything new.
Files Were Deleted from an SSD
Recovery may be more difficult on SSDs because TRIM can cause deleted data to become permanently unavailable.
Important: The sooner you stop using the affected drive, the lower the risk of overwriting deleted files.
Free Download for WindowsWhat to Do Immediately After Deleting Files
What you do after deleting a file can affect whether it is still recoverable. Follow these steps before starting recovery.
1. Stop Using the Affected Drive
Avoid saving files, downloading software, installing updates, or making other changes to the drive where the deleted files were stored.
New data may overwrite the space containing your deleted files.
2. Check the Recycle Bin
If you deleted the files normally in Windows, check the Recycle Bin first.
If the files are still there, restore them directly instead of using recovery software.
3. Check Backups and Cloud Storage
Look for copies in OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, File History, or another backup system you use.
Recovering from an existing backup is usually safer than scanning the original drive.
4. Avoid Installing Recovery Software on the Same Drive
If possible, install RecoveryRobot on a different physical drive.
Installing software on the affected drive could overwrite deleted data.
5. Prepare a Different Recovery Location
Save recovered files to another physical drive, USB device, or external hard drive.
Do not recover files back to the same drive they were deleted from.
6. Scan the Affected Drive
If the files are not available in the Recycle Bin or a backup, scan the original drive with RecoveryRobot to see what may still be recoverable.
Important: If the affected storage device is physically failing, repeatedly disconnecting, or making unusual noises, stop using it and consider professional recovery instead.
Where Can You Recover Deleted Files From?
RecoveryRobot can scan supported storage devices that are recognized by Windows.
Internal Hard Drives
External Hard Drives
Scan portable hard drives for files deleted accidentally or lost after other logical data-loss problems.
SSDs
RecoveryRobot can scan supported SSDs, although deleted-file recovery may be more difficult when TRIM has already cleared the data.
USB Flash Drives
Recover deleted files from USB drives, including files that bypassed the Windows Recycle Bin.
SD and microSD Cards
Scan SD cards, microSD cards, and supported camera memory cards for deleted files.
Important: Stop using the affected storage device as soon as possible. Saving new data may overwrite files that could otherwise be recovered.
Free Download for WindowsWhat Types of Deleted Files Can Be Recovered?
RecoveryRobot can search for many common file types that have been deleted but have not yet been overwritten.
Documents
Recover deleted Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, PDFs, text files, and other supported document formats.
Photos
Search for deleted JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and supported camera RAW images.
Videos
Recover deleted MP4, MOV, AVI, and other supported video files.
Audio
Search for deleted MP3, WAV, AAC, and other supported audio files.
Archives and Other Files
RecoveryRobot can also scan for ZIP archives and other supported file types.
Recovery depends on whether the original file data is still intact. Files that have been overwritten may no longer be recoverable.
Free Download for WindowsWhen Undelete Software May Not Help
Deleted-file recovery is not always possible. Recovery depends on whether the original file data is still intact and whether the storage device can be read normally.
The Deleted Data Has Been Overwritten
If new files have reused the same storage space, the original contents may be permanently lost.
The more you continue using the affected drive, the greater the risk of overwriting deleted files.
SSD TRIM Has Cleared the Data
On SSDs, TRIM may cause deleted file data to become unavailable soon after deletion.
In these cases, undelete software may find little or nothing to recover.
The Files Were Securely Deleted
Secure-delete tools are designed to overwrite file data.
Once the original contents have been completely overwritten, recovery software cannot restore them.
The Storage Device Is Physically Failing
RecoveryRobot cannot repair damaged hardware.
If a hard drive makes clicking or grinding noises, repeatedly disconnects, or a storage device shows signs of physical damage, stop using it and consider professional recovery.
Windows Cannot Detect the Device
RecoveryRobot needs Windows to recognize the storage device before it can scan it.
If the device isn't detected, first rule out connection problems such as a faulty cable, USB port, card reader, or enclosure—assuming the device shows no signs of physical failure.
A Recovered File Is Corrupted
Finding a deleted file does not guarantee that all of its contents are still intact.
Files that were partially overwritten may be incomplete, damaged, or unable to open correctly.
If the storage device is detected by Windows and shows no signs of physical failure, scan it to see which deleted files may still be recoverable.
